Inspiring Artists Entries Deadline was March 7th

I’m happy to report that Flimsey Freenote received several GREAT entries for the “Inspiring Artists in SL” machinima contest we ran the day of the Haiti Benefit. All the entries are being forwarded to the judges, the artists that actually performed that day. Watch for the results and see who wins the 30,000 Linden prize. After the winner is announced, we’ll post a link to all the entries.

Yesterday was a BIG day for me and Flimsey! A very big day.  I had just spent the last three days attending the SLPro Conference at NMC (New Media Consortium) where I entered our sim in the  Full Build Challenge.

The New Media Consortium (NMC) is an international not-for-profit consortium of learning-focused organizations dedicated to the exploration and use of new media and new technologies. Its hundreds of member institutions constitute an elite list of the most highly regarded colleges and universities in the world, as well as leading museums, key research centers, and some of the world’s most forward-thinking companies. Believe me, both us gals are smiling from ear to ear at receiving this honor. We’ve been working our avatar butts off the past month, trying to make the entire sim a place where musicians and artists of all types will come to relax, share their talents, and hopefully get inspired. Of course, the focal point of the build is Flimsey’s fabulous immersive media creation, but we both hope visitors will take a little time to explore other areas of the island.

Artists in Second Life® Art Galleries

While the immersive media set is by far the most stunning, and most prominent feature of the sim, we are also the home of some of the most talented artists in Second Life®.  In the little town we’ve created we have  filled 8 of the 10 available shops. We are a member of the “Art Galleries of SL” and are pleased to welcome Isabel Hermano (acrylics), Emil Junge (oils), Walt Ireton (nature & landscape photography), Eshi Otawara (art installations), Katydid Something (floral photography), and Chandlr Bing (sculpted true life clocks) to the iNsPiReD family of artists. Please stop by and check out their inspiring work.

Over $50,000 Lindens Raised at our Virtual Haiti Relief Benefit Sunday

Sunday was a VERY full and exciting day as fluent media productions hosted our 10-hour extravaganza of great Second Life® musicians to raise money for Virtual Haiti Relief. This awesome cause brought out the best in the best. Someone said, give ’til it hurts, and by jove all you great folks did. $51,212 raised. 

We sure pushed the sim to the limits too. Avatars coming, going and coming back. I noticed many donated several times… how cool is that!  Many also generously tipped the venue, so all of those tips were added to the Haiti Kiosk as well.  I just love the outpouring of goodness from the people I meet in SL. Reminds me of a poem.

YOU ONLY GET TO KEEP WHAT YOU GIVE AWAY

Inspiring Artists in SL Machinima Contest

fluent media productions would like to invite you one and all to participate with us at the newly opened Inspiration Island on Feb 21st for an all day – all star performance art event to support the people of Haiti. (starts at noon pm SL (PDT))

Inspiration Island was created to promote collaborative performance art events in SecondLife, such as Live Music, performance art, art shows, videographers, photographers, we think you get the idea.  That’s why we are opening the doors with some of the most talented musicians and performance artists in SL.

To make it even more fun and inspiring, we have decided to invite all videographers’/machinimatographers that wish to create a short (3 to 5 min) performance video of what they see here that day, to enter it in our Inspiring Artists of SL contest.

PRIZE

The prize will be 30,000  Lindens, for the one video voted the best by the performance artists themselves. If we get more sponsors, we will add more prizes.

HOW TO ENTER
=============
You can enter up to three videos by sending Flimsey Freenote a notecard with the youtube links to the videos you want to enter, on or before March 7th, 2010.  The Grand Prize of 30,000  Lindens will be awarded on March 14th, live at Inspiration Island,  After a showing of all the entered videos, starting at Noon SL time.

February 10th Gig on Inspiration Island

Well, a GREAT time was had by all last night on Inspiration Island on Second Life. Headliners included Arimo Teixeira and Tukso Okey. These guys are inspiring alright!

Arimo,  Mario Metsovaara Torrez in RL, is a solo guitarist streaming live out of Chicago, Illinois. He is an Arranger, Composer, and Songwriter of Latin Fusion & Nu-jazz and is trained in both Classical & Contemporary guitar styles.  Tukso Okey is an original — a musical genre unto himself. From a small lad, Tukso took in the music of the sounds of the urban world around him, and he has turned it around to give it back to us with richness and a robust passion.

A surprise appearance by fire dancer Cellandra Zon rounded out the evening.

We had a great crowd, the creme de la creme of artists, musicians and machinimatographers, all there to support the efforts of Flimsey Freenotes  goal to provide an inspiring and collaborative space within to create great art.

fluent media opens it doors this week

This has been an awesome week for the partners of fluent media productions. (Flimsey Freenote, Georgianna Blackburn & David Stone) With the launch of our newest project on Inspiration Island, the visitors have been pouring in !  We have set out to creating a collaborative vehicle for SL musicians, performance artists & machinimatographers to create the magic that makes virtual worlds so spectacular.

Until now the playground of the world’s elite, but now a place for a few others who know the secret passage to its shores. Inspiration Island features an immersive world of light, color and darkness created with the most powerful virtual technology in the known metaverse.
